Grief is the price we pay for love

This is my lovely mum, pictured in 1970, with her three children. We meant the world to her (yes, even the bored looking one, second from left).

She's been the rock in our lives for all this time. Until, two days ago, we lost her. And now I remember how crushingly painful the death of a parent is.

Grief truly is the price we pay for love, and the more we love someone, the higher the price is when we lose them.

Please, if you still have a mum, tell them today how much they mean to you.

If, like me, you’re grieving, the bad news is that the scar will never heal. But no matter how grim things might seem now, they will get better.

There is also help at hand. This week is National Grief Awareness Week in the UK. It's organised by the Good Grief Trust, and the aim is to get people talking about grief, so it's not such a taboo subject. Whether you've been bereaved recently, or you're struggling years after a loved one's death, you'll find plenty of helpful information on the Trust's website.
