Introducing Index Funds the Musical

Updated: 1 day ago

So, the countdown is on for the 94th Academy Awards: the Oscars ceremony is just three weeks away.

Here at TEBI we’ve finally overcome our disappointment at Index Funds the Movie being cruelly overlooked for a nomination for Best Picture in 2016 and, as the big night approaches, we're starting to take an interest again.

Naturally we like to root for any British movie nominated. But this year — sorry, Belfast — we're rather hoping either Kind Richard or West Side Story wins the top gong. And please, anything but Dune (what is all about? 🤷).

It’s 60 years since the 1961 version of West Side Story won a total of ten Oscars at the 34th Academy Awards, making it the musical film with the most Academy wins. For us, the latest version is better still. Indeed, you could argue that the story is even more relevant in the increasingly tribal world of today than it was then.

Human beings love to attach themselves to tribes. Whether it’s Brexit or Remain, love Trump or loathe him, or pro or anti vaccine, we like to identify with one side or the other.

Investing's tribal divide

Of course, investing has its own version the Capulets versus Montagues or Sharks versus Jets. And that’s the indexers versus the active managers, and we think you’ll love this video, commissioned by Patrick Geddes, called Wall Street Story. Patrick had a hugely successful career in asset management. Though now in retirement, he shares TEBI's passion for improving investor education among the general public.

As well as writing a book called , Patrick has also commissioned a series of videos to explain some of the more complex and, let’s face it, quite dull, aspects of investing in an engaging and accessible way. And this particular video is one of our favourites.

Enjoy… and please do share it if raises a smile or you find it helpful.
